Enjoyed these stories from one of the best fiction writers working today.
Loved the one novel I read of his, and adored his short stories. Bought five of the paperbacks to give away to friends...
In general I really like David Guerson’s books, but this one was not my cup of tea.
David Guterson is an amazing author. This collection of novelettes surpasses his genius with Snow Falling on Cedars - which was one of my favorite books. I have shared this book with 3 friends already and they fully agree with my favorable opinion.

BUY THIS BOOK
This is the first book of David Guterson that I did not enjoy. The stories were all so negative and hopeless that I didn't finish the book. I realize real life is often like that, but there is a lot of good and kindness out there too, and a few positive stories would have made the book more readable and interesting.
I thoroughly enjoy Guterson's short story writing. His stories are engaging and crisp, and stimulate the imagination to think about what should happen next, as any good story teller should do. I only wish he had more published! Looking forward to his next!
As a fan of Guterson I somewhat expected to like his short stories. However, we all know that good writers of novels are not always good at short stories and vice versa. These are good short stories and well worth the read.

My only complaint is in modern short story style which is intent on leaving the reader hanging with the slice of life snap shot. But taken as a whole there is a kind of thread to the set.
