Sandow On Physical Training A Study in the Perfect Type of the Human Form Graeme Mercer Adam Eugen Sandow 9781296596736 Books

Sandow was a Victorian Era performer. He was a Strongman, and a Showman. Originally trained as an acrobat. This book contains three things: personal history and anecdotes, which are entertaining; it contains preparatory information for the aspiring weightlifter - diet, form, et cetera, and finally; it contains a programme outline with instructions and illustrations for performing Sandow's regimen.

The book is a slow read, Victorians were a wordy bunch.. Sandow's explanation is thorough. Readers with short attention spans will find the long anecdotal section difficult, as with the long preface to his actual programme. However, for the student of Physical Culture, the book is fascinating. It gives insights that the modern strength enthusiast would be foolish to ignore entirely. After all, Sandow is one of the Fathers of modern strength training. If you read the book, you will see his influence in much of today's exercise logic.

It's SANDOW, so you know it's good.
If you want to train with this book, you must put mental concentration into your muscels or else you could injur yourself.
Print
The print is extremely poor and barely legible .cannot be read with ease .extremely difficult to read I returned this book
Really old and outdated information but not a bad read if you have ever heard of Sandow !!!
I have read several written works of Eugen Sandow( 1867-1925 ) and I must admit that his physical culture is rather usable still today. The first part of this book is dedicated to descripe the story of Sandow and only at second part the book is conserning the physical culture as such.
This work contains anatomy, with details of anterior and posterior aspects of body and it's muscles. I consern this very important for phyical culturist or body builder alike. The book then proceeds to give some 46 different excersises with bodyweight, dumbbells and heavy weights that are completely usable today and I've taken various exercises to my own programs. I would like to recommend this very warmly.
The information in this book is more valuable than it's weight in gold, and I say that with absolutely no exaggeration. The only truly scientific system of physical culture that has ever existed. A system by which even the weak may become strong and the injured and diseased may become healthy. This system should be a foundation, of which all athletic training and curative physical therapy should be based. A man dedicated his entire life towards building himself a perfectly sound body, and showed that it is through modest, patient, and natural methods that this is achieved. We so often relate great accomplishments with arduous training, forgetting that this is not how nature works. Nature is slow and steady to add to the health and strength of an organism. Not only did he succeed, but he recorded his methods and showed through his other works The Construction and Reconstruction and Life is Movement that his system is applicable to everyone and, if done correctly, failure is impossible, along with injury. I have seen numerous people online claiming to demonstrate his movements, yet it seems as though they feel they can pick and choose which pieces of his system to use. It is a well thought out and detailed system, and if every piece of wisdom is implemented, the results are miraculous. Only a fool would claim to know better than Sandow on matters of physical culture. No matter who you are, or how you came to read this review, you owe it to yourself to not only buy this book but to study it, and to take nothing in it for granted. As Newton said, "if I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants." I have purchased every copy of this book I can find, and this scholars choice edition is the most complete.
I have finally found an exercise regime that I can follow at home with a minimum amount of equipment. I puchased two barbells for less than $20.00!! Furthermore I have seen significant results in three months. This is the only book you need to make a real difference in the way you look and feel.
