I have to admit I'm having fun with these series of books. Enjoyed the first book in the series and this one too is on par. Sexy bikers fighting injustice on Mars. Hell Yeah!
So the earth has been damaged so badly that humans have been convinced to move to Mars and live under the oppressive leadership of a man called Wexmen. Women are property to be owned. Blacks are slaves and homosexuality is illegal. Not to mention a host of other things. So bad men are in power and the good men are the bikers who are branded outlaws because they fight against the regime. The risk is high if they are caught. Punishment can range from imprisonment to death by execution.
Knox aka Outlaw it the President of Outlaw MC and Liam aka Lover is the VP. They've been friends since they were boys and started the motorcycle club together. But over the years, Outlaw has been so concentrated on taking down Wexmen, he's put his own love life on hold and ignored the 'lover' staring him in the face. Pun intended. He is attracted to Liam/Lover but since homosexuality is illegal he's been worried about being caught and sent to jail and not completing his ambition of taking down the government. We get to see Knox's past and understand his fears.
But his secrets attraction to Lover couldn't stay hidden forever and things come to a head between then when Lover is injured. These two made us wait to the very end to get their act together but it's worth it. Plus theirs enough out of bedroom action to keep the reader entertained with the rescue of the slave. Someone please tell me Justice has his own story somewhere. Perhaps not in this series but their should be a series for the Underground MC if there isn't one already. I want to read it.
Well well well….the big bad wolf (President of the Outlaw MC) actually has feelings. I’ve got to say that I enjoyed this second installment more so than the first. There was a little more…story to this one and it drew me in.
Knox, a.k.a. Outlaw, is the President of the Outlaw MC’s on Mars. He’s considered the bad guy, but really, he’s the good one. Fighting for what’s right against a government that’s just plain wrong. In a world where being gay is a crime punishable by death, fighting his feelings for his Vice President Liam, a.k.a. Lover, was becoming harder and harder. Pun intended.
Outlaw was doing a decent job concealing his feelings until something happens during one of their “missions”, forcing him to come to terms with those feelings for Lover. Funny how tragic events will do that, right?
Ok, so blah blah blah, right? Actually, the author did a good job keeping me not only involved in the mission, but the love story of it all. It was refreshing to read about a badass going soft (ok, no pun intended on that one).
Well done Cox. For someone who very rarely reads M/M, I’m actually looking forward to reading about Mayheam, Whip, Deviant and even Daisy…I mean Day-Si.

I can tell this is going to be one of those series where, every time I finish a book I’ll be all, “those two dudes are my favorite” and then the next one will be, “Ok, now THOSE two are my favorite. Don’t tell the others!” I was hooked after meeting Chaos and Beau in Chaos Unchained, but then I got to meet Knox (Outlaw) and Liam (Lover) in Underneath his Armor. These two had it all going on. They’d been best friends forever, they are both full members of the Outlaw MC, and they are both totally badass. They’ve also been in love and denying it for way too long.
It makes sense since they have their priorities, they need to take down Wexman and right the wrongs on Mars. But, by focusing all their energies on their altruistic goals, they are missing the amazing thing that is right in front of them. Well, Outlaw mostly. He’s the leader so he holds himself to a higher standard and doesn’t think he can afford the distraction that is Lover. It’s SO obvious he’s in more than just lust though and it was both sweet and frustrating reading his inner dialog.
There were some seriously hot moments that didn’t even have much to do with either MC, but man did it ratchet up the UST. The scene in the clubhouse bar? Yeah, that’s the one. Highly recommended. It was some sweet torture for them both and a hell of a lot of fun.
There was an exciting mission that gave even more insight into the world they’re living in. It was dangerous and heroic. It also put some things into perspective for Outlaw. He could have lost the one thing that meant more to him than anything and he finally realized that the torture he was putting himself through was even more distracting than just letting himself go after what he wanted and a chance of happiness in an environment of misery.
My favorite thing about these two was, underneath all that badassery, they were really sweet and romantic together. Not in a hearts and flowers way, but in a way that has more meaning and impact. They had those little moments that I love. Like calling each other by their given names when they finally get down to really talking (among other things) and their reactions to each other were honest and damn hot.
Draws you in from the very first page and makes you want to keep reading until it's finished. Love how it shows that even in a time of war you still need love.
Once again, James Cox knocks it out of the park with a terrific story of a dystopian future and rough, tough MC members fighting the system while falling in love with each other. Great stuff!
