The author joins the ranks of authors such as Palahniuk,Vonnegut and Hunter S Thompson for insane, gonzo and satirical story telling. The story takes us thru the minds of bi-polar manic depression and how it makes you react to absurd and crazy situations. Tho the story is a little difficult to follow at times, it's well worth reading to the end. I recommendTags : Amazon.com: Jane. Jane Riya Anne Polcastro Books Reviews
This book leads you on a dark, twisted path into the world of hedonism and schizophrenia. Soon, you start to question who is really insane, the mental patient or the psychiatrist? Told by the viewpoints of many characters, even a Swisher Sweet cigaro, this book is an undulating journey through the minds of many people, all of whom have been broken. Can you expect anyone to be normal after the wounds they endure? Jane is a delightfully horrible person, a character as complex as her aunt's many mental health diagnoses. It is fun to watch her unravel as the book progresses. With the exception of some editing errors, this book is an incredibly well-written and brutally entertaining read.
This is a changing world. Not too long ago, Mothers had no qualms about their teenage daughters inviting their girlfriends over to the house, going in the bedroom, and shutting the door. Mom knew the girls would watch TV, listen to music, gossip, play games, whatever girls do, then go their own way to home. Not anymore, thanks to the changing mores of young girls, the readily accessible dope culture, and sexual urges satisfied by bisexuality. The book is filled with crazies, but only one is certifiable. The others haven’t been tested yet. The certifiable one is Aunt Rose, who is now in the care of her niece, Jane, at the insistence of Jane’s mother, Rose’s Sister Velma. To seek part-time refuge from the traumas of her Aunt, Jane joins a group of young ladies in The Circle, where alcohol, pot, heroin, cocaine, and crack are the substances of choice and bisexuality satisfies their urges. Their adventures together help solidify Salem Oregon’s nickname of “Crazy Town.” Two thirds through the book, an enormous bombshell is dropped in the storyline and the ride the girls are on gets wilder and wilder. Oh, it probably goes without saying This book is not for those under 21. Further, the writing style is unique, at least to me. All of the characters take turns narrating the plot, some for just a paragraph others for pages. How do we keep it straight? Simple. Each change of narration is numbered and begins with the narrator’s name in parenthesis. Couldn’t be simpler than that. A fast-moving story, well told. Riya Anne Polcastro has written several other books and I am definitely going to search them out.
The straightforward dialogue kept the book at a great pace where it was hard to put down. Well balanced and thought provoking!
Another great book by a very talented author. I highly recommend this book to everyone. I have recommended it to several family and friends. Check it out, it's worth it!
Still haven't finished the book, but am enjoying it very much. This experience has turned me into a ''reader''. Never was one to pick up a book, but am glad that I purchased this one and ventured into the world of the printed word.
This is an edgy, nerve wracking look into a deeply anguished life, meet Jane who is in Oregon where she is losing a bit of her mind, of course she is not alone in this gripping story, The author writes a story of a demented but strangely likable character who falls in with the wrong crowd and finds life isn't as it seems. This book is complex, yet it felt like a quick read because once readers turn that first page they are hooked and drawn in and not able to put down this look into the darker world of craziness. Well done work of stranger than fiction that reads like a real life story and I have a feeling readers may find a few truths inside the pages of this novel.
A very profound story about the lives of those living with mental health. The main character shifts between many struggles with friends and family and ultimately herself. A worthwhile read and I'm glad I read it.
