Colin and Jen have known each other forever. He was best friends with her brother Danny and when Danny dies in Afghanistan Colin vows to protect Jen. He takes her away from a horrible situation and gives her a job and a place to live. Jen is grateful for all Colin has done for her but she is tired of being dependent on him. She refuses to be a burden to him anymore so she plans to move away, start fresh. Now, she just needs to tell Colin.Colin refuses to let Jen go. He needs her, not that he’ll admit that out loud. He can’t have her anyway, she’s his best friends sister and he needs to protect her. It doesn’t mean that he doesn’t want her. But he has his own demons that he’s running from and keeping her at arms length is what he thinks is best.
Right from the beginning you can see that Colin and Jen need each other. But you can also see that Jen needs to go, to try and make it on her own. However, that would’ve required Jen to actually make plans for her future. I like Jen, I get her need to get away but she really needed to think things through instead of just reacting. What I did like about her is that she put herself out there for Colin. She straight up tells him that she wants him. That takes guts. But I love Colin and his dark, mysterious, brooding self. For me, he’s what makes the story. He tries to keep Jen at a distance but you can see that he cares.
Colin and Jen both have secrets and guilt of things that have happened in the past. Now, if only they would actually talk to each other than maybe they could get on the same page and realize that they need each other and that they are better together.
Three Broken Promises is full of emotional angst and sexual chemistry. I loved getting to know more about Colin and Jen and I loved getting a chance to visit Fable and Drew. These two are still favorites of mine and had some great lines. And Owen! I’m so excited to see more of Owen in his book.

Three Broken Promises A Novel One Week Girlfriend Quartet Monica Murphy 9780804176804 Books Reviews
As a big fan of Monica Murphy and her books featuring Drew and Fable, I was excited that she planned to write about both Fable' s boss and best friend.
Three Broken Promises is Jen and Colin' s story. Fable works with Jen at The District and Colin is her boss there.
Jen and Colin have known each other since they were kids. Colin was best friends with Jen's brother Danny. Danny, having died in war, haunts Colin' s dreams. And Colin feels responsible for Jen since both her parents and her brother aren't there for her. Since Danny's death, Jen's parents have abandoned her, wallowing in their grief. She makes some bad decisions while on her own but thankfully Colin saves her and she ends up living with him while working with him.
It is now that both realize they each have feelings for each other. But can both Jen's and Colin' s secrets keep them apart? Will Jen make good on her promise to leave to get her freedom? Will Colin find the courage to stop her?
You need to read this well written and simply heartwarming book to find out. I absolutely loved every word and I am just as enamored by this couple as I am Drew and Fable. I look forward to both Owen's story and the conclusion of Drew and Fables journey. This is a fantastic series that must not be missed!!!
I cannot recommend this book highly enough! A huge 5 stars from me...happily )
3.5 Stars
I LOOOOVVVEEE Monica Murphy. When Netgalley approved me for this ARC I was so excited to read it!!
One Week Girlfriend and Second Chance Boyfriend were amazing books and I couldn't wait to get more of this series.
In this book Colin and Jen are fighting their feelings for each other. We get dual POV - my favorite!!!
Colin feels this sense of responsibility towards Jen. He was friends with her brother, Danny. Danny and Colin were going to join the military together. Only Danny signed up without him and when Colin took the opportunity to start his own restaurant, Danny went overseas alone and never returned. Colin suffers from guilt over Danny's death. He promised to take care of Jen and that's what he does. But in addition to his sense of responsibility, he cares about her. He wants her. But he feels like he doesn't deserve her because he has let people down before.
Jen's family did not recover from her brother's death well at all. Her parents were blinded by their misery and did not pay any attention to her at all. So she left home and one bad decision after another found her stripping for money and living out of her car. Desperation made her do some things that she is not proud of. She wants to bury them in her past forever. But Colin showed up and saved her.
So Jen finds herself living with Colin, working in his restaurant and she wants so much more from Colin. She doesn't want to be his damsel in distress. But she feels like she doesn't deserve him either.
He wants more. She wants more. But neither want to tell each other how they feel and they each feel they don't deserve the other. OK. I seriously wanted to jump into this story and bash Jen and Colin's heads together. This....resistence to open up to each other dragged on for so long, I thought I might explode.
Colin is a stand up guy. And mouth wateringly delicious. Loved reading from his perspective.
But I did not connect well with Jen. She wants to move away from Colin. To prove to herself that she can make it on her own. But she doesn't plan anything. She doesn't bring her cell phone charger with her on her trip - I mean come on!!! Brains. Use your brains. This irresponsibility was a bit annoying.
The chemistry between Colin and Jen was HOT. Loved the steamy scenes.
And, I loved catching up with Drew and Fable. LOVE THEM!!!
Love Monica Murphy's writing style. Very easy to read. Had me turning the pages to see if the main characters would ever pull their heads out of their asses!
CH - NOPE!! But the series will continue with Four Years Later - Owen's story.
I recommend this book for anyone who has read OWG and SCB. If you have not read those books, READ THEM NOW!! They were amazing.
Thanks, Monica, for a great read. I can't wait to read the next one.
